Our friends at Cybex just provided this rendering of how their equipment will be laid out in the new fitness center.
Framed in blue
The sun came out (for a little while) this week, and Matt Dilyard captured a beautiful image of the Scot Center framed between the blue sky and the melting ice on the back patio of Lowry. You can find it Under the Kilt.
Tower complete, work moves inside
As the first snow flies, the Scot Center is buttoned up and ready for interior work to proceed throughout the winter months. The tower, which harkens back to that of the old chapel, adds a distinctly Wooster touch.
Getting ready for winter
First a roof, now the exterior walls are going into place on the Scot Center. By mid-December, the building will be fully enclosed and heated, so interior work can continue full-speed ahead through the winter months.
Hundreds turn out to make their mark on the Scot Center
Hundreds of students, alumni, staff, and community members joined members of the college’s board of trustees Friday evening to claim a piece of history by signing a commemorative steel beam that will be permanently displayed in the lobby of the new Scot Center. Hundreds more added their signatures during the day Monday. Check out the video: Scot Center beam signing
By the numbers: Scot Center construction milestones to date
With 370 tons of structural steel now set, the Scot Center is really taking shape. Construction is humming along and the building is on track to be enclosed and heated by mid-December.
A few more numbers, provided by Bogner Construction Management Company, give a sense of the enormous amount that has been accomplished since work began in April:
- 17,200 cubic yards of earth have been moved.
- 3,1724 cubic yards of concrete have been poured.
- 30,000 square feet of precast concrete planks have been set.
- 4.3 miles of piping and conduit have been installed.
And then there’s the economic impact. The project has created approximately 68 full-time construction jobs, while all the materials used so far have been purchased from vendors within a 250 mile radius of Wooster.
